BEST/l@-Design of a tool for computer system capacity planning

This paper presents the design philosophy used in the BEST/ 1 computer performance evaluator. Essentially, BEST/1 is a modeling tool which has been developed to address the "what if" questions that arise when evaluating computer . system performance. These questions are of importance in such areas as capacity planning, performance tuning, hardware vendor selection and new system design. From a design standpoint, the most significant features of BEST/l are those which relate to ease of use. The following five objectives were considered most essential in this regard:
